64. The killing of Zayd Ibn Ali

The martyrdom of Imam Hussain and the captivity of his family sparked a series of revolutions against the Umayyad empire. The first being the Tawabeen revolution in Kufa, which ended in the massacre of Ain al-Warda. The second, being that of -Mukhtar Ibn Abi Ubayd al-Thaqafi in Kufa. His revolution, which began five years after the battle and lasted for 12 months, resulted in the just execution of all those involved in the killing of Imam Hussain and his family, including Ibn Ziyad. Another important revolution was carried out by Imam al-Sajjad’s son, Zaid Ibn Ali al-Shaheed (the martyr). His revolution, which began nearly six decades after the battle, and aimed to end the tyranny of the Umayyads, resulted in the crucification of Zaid and his followers. Despite this, his revolution had a long-term effect, resulting in the fall of the Umayyad empire.
